On February 11, 2010,
School leaders, join us this summer for a three-day professional learning institute on the waterfront in Plymouth. Former assistant superintendent for curriculum and professor Louise Thompson will lead discussions about professional learning communities, walk-throughs, and differentiated instruction.
The JET program is hosting National Teacher of the Year Anthony Mullen (pictured at left accepting his award from President Obama) in an event at UMass Dartmouth on May 20 at 4 p.m. Mullen, a former New York City police officer, is a ninth through twelfth grade special education teacher at the ARCH School, an alternative education branch of Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The New Bedford Standard-Times has selected Sharon Hartley as its 2009 "Rochester Woman of the Year," in recognition of her succesful efforts to expand Rochester's Memorial School. The article can be found
Current research shows a strong positive relationship between
assessing the impact of professional learning and increased
student achievement. School leadership teams, professional
learning developers, coaches, and higher education partners are
offered this opportunity to participate with Joellen Killion, to
look at the steps and resources needed to evaluate the impact of
professional development programs on student learning in
schools and districts.
Are you a paraprofessional, and interested in becoming a teacher? The Journey into Education and Teaching (JET) program at CUSP can help. This accelerated teacher licensure program enables paraprofessionals to earn associate's and bachelor's degrees from Bristol Community College and UMass Dartmouth, leading to state teaching licensure in Elementary Education and Moderate Disabilities. Participants complete courses together as a cohort, and are eligible for tuition scholarships from the state.
