Art History
BA - 120 credit, four-year program of study
Achieving an art history degree endows one with a life-long critical tool, merging the world of visual culture with the verbal domain of the liberal arts.
Art History is allied to the liberal arts in its choice of objects and methods. By presenting individual and material contributions of Western and non-Western cultures--architecture, sculpture, painting, graphics, and artisanry--together with the political, social, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual events that accompanied the creation of art and civilizations, faculty educate students to understand more fully and critically assess the visual artifacts of past and present cultures.
The curriculum acquaints students with methods and theories of art historical study, allows concentration on topics and periods of the student's choosing, and provides the intellectual training for those wishing to prepare for advanced work in one of the specialized areas of art history or in a related field. With this in mind, students are offered numerous opportunities to propose and carry out projects of personal interest and to work in arts institutions.
