College of Visual & Performing Arts

Sculpture Facilities

The Sculpture Department is located on the third floor of the Star Store, New Bedford campus, and at the Group VI building on the main campus. Junior and senior level undergraduates as well as the graduate students are located at the Star Store. The undergraduate sophomore program, the Foundry (for bronze and aluminum casting) and a large outdoor work area are all part of the Group VI facility. Both Star Store and the Group VI facilities are well equipped to handle a wide variety of materials and techniques.

The new state-of-the-art ventilation system at the Star Store provides for an excellent working environment in the specialized welding, wood and plaster/clay studios. There are extensive woodworking and metal fabrication shops as well as a dedicated space for wet-work, mold making and modeling. In addition, there are two dedicated installation spaces and large open studio space may accommodate a variety of mixed media projects. Junior, senior and graduate level sculpture students are provided with their own individual studio space at the Star Store. The sculpture department also maintains its own resource library and storage space.

The studios, facilities, and equipment place the program among the more desirable ones in the country. The Department of Fine Arts and CVPA host or participate in many on- and off-campus exhibitions. These experiences prepare students to enter the competitive, exciting world of the visual arts with confidence.

Sculpture and 3D studios are located at UMass Dartmouth's main campus and at CVPA's new state-of-the-art Star Store. Shops are spacious, and well equipped to service a wide range of technical interests. All Sculpture / 3D majors are provided with individual studio space at Star Store.
