Lecture: Renée Cox. Celebrated photographer and mixed-media artist Renée Cox opens the 2008-2009 CVPA Speaker Series with a lecture on her body of work. One of the most controversial African-American artists working today, Cox has used her own body, both nude and clothed, to celebrate black womanhood and criticize a society she often views as racist and sexist.

Henrik Drescher: Ornamental Breakdown. The University Art Gallery is pleased to welcome Danish artist Henrik Drescher, whose unique works are on the cutting edge of contemporary illustration. The artist will offer a lecture, 'Multitasking With the Muses,' on Thursday, September 11, at 8pm.

Forum: Creative Solutions for the 21st Century. ArtWorks! hosts a community dialogue and 15th Anniversary celebration. A distinguished panel of leaders from government, education and business will explore creative ideas for student learning, innovative technologies and business strategies that will define the 21st century with leaders from government, education and business.

4th Annual New Bedford Open Studios. Discover the vibrant and growing art community in New Bedford, as over 90 artists exhibit in 10 historic buildings throughout the city. A sampling of the work from the event will be on display at ArtWorks! (384 Acushnet Avenue) September 27-October 18.
