JAMIE ECKERT: Biography
Jamie Eckert is currently the Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Jamie received his B.S. in Music Industry and Performance from Eastern New Mexico University. He also holds a M.M. degree from West Virginia University.
In addition to coordinating the percussion program at UMass Dartmouth, Jamie also assists Professor royal hartigan with the undergraduate program in World Music Studies. As a performer, Jamie is known for his versatility in many different musical environments. He has played with well known orchestras, world music groups, popular music groups, and in various jazz settings. Jamie has traveled throughout Europe and Asia as part of educational arts exchanges and has been a featured artist and performer throughout the United States. He has also served two times as faculty member, and coordinator of World Music Studies for the prestigious West Virginia Governors Honors Academy.
Since 1991, Jamie has instructed the front ensemble for the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps and with three recent back to back percussion championships, he is regarded as one of the top percussion specialists in the activity. This past year Jamie served as co-coordinator of percussion as the Cadets won their fourth Drum Corp International percussion title in five years. Jamie also has two world championships as an instructor and arranger for the Dartmouth Indoor Percussion Theater, and continues to direct his own steel drum band "El Caribe" which plays throughout New England.
