ILANA RINGWALD: Biography

Ilana Ringwald was born and raised in Europe. She began violin studies in Tel-Aviv with Maya Glezarova, then at Cambridge University (U.K.) and Hochschule für Musik, Detmold, Germany, and finally back home in Switzerland at the Schola Cantorum, Basel, for postgraduate studies with Chiara Banchini. Ilana won numerous scholarships while participating in master classes and superior courses with such masters as Nathan Milstein, Geza Kapas, and the Borodin Quartet.

Under the management of the Lothar Loeffler Institute, Germany, Ilana engaged in a serious solo career, performing in most major cities of Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, England, and in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. She has worked with conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado and Charles Dutoit with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and while in Europe she regularly toured as a member of the Orchestre de Chambre Geneve.

She is a member of the Newport Baroque Orchestra , the Foundling Orchestra, The Mostly Baroque Players and substitutes for the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. She is an assistant Professor at Wheaton College, MA, teaching viola and chamber music and she teaches Violin/viola at University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth.
