CVPA Community Outreach
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
The Community Outreach & Collaborative Activities assistantship provides an opportunity for an incoming ceramic graduate student to continue and initiate artistic programming both within the Star Store and the New Bedford Community.
Established Programs Include:
- VACANT SPACES designed for CVPA students to exhibit artwork in downtown vacant buildings, or empty storefronts. Promotes student exposure while brings art into the community.
- STAR STORE RETAIL GALLERY students and alumni submit work to be displayed and sold in the Retail Gallery located on the first floor of the Star Store as well as The Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts.
- AHA! taking place the second Thursday of each month, COCA helps organize, sponsor, and publicize Star Store activities to aid in the participation in the creative arts among downtown New Bedford.
- EQUIPMENT LOAN numerous pedestals, paints, track lights, and miscellaneous supplies are available for CVPA students to borrow to use in artistic exhibitions.
In conjuncture to maintaining these existing programs, the Community Outreach and Collaborative Activities graduate assistant is afforded the ability to coordinate new projects. Ones taking place-or in the works- for the 2007-2008 school year are a mixed-media interdisciplinary art exhibit, interaction with local school children during AHA, and a silent art auction to take place in the spring.
