Scope & Content

For many years VRC has supported academic pedagogy through its slide holdings, especially in respect to art and art history instruction. Today, the slide collection consists of approximately 77,000 images with an emphasis on western art and architecture of all periods. The collection also encompasses a large body of non-western cultures including Africa, North America, South America, Asia, and Middle East.

Western Art

Collection is arranged by genre as listed below.

• Artisanry (arms, manuscripts, ceramics, costumes, furniture, jewelry, metal work, mosaics, musical Instruments, stain glass, textile, basketry

• Cartography
• Design

The collection is further sub-categorized by the nationality of the artist (French, Italian, English, German) and surname (Monet, Cariani, Reynolds, Holzel).

Non-Western Art

Non-western collections are arranged by geographically (non-classified) as listed below.

• African
• Oceanic (includes Australia and New Zealand)
• North America
• South America
• Meso America
• Asia
• Middle East
