Course & Program Information

Classes are offered in the day and evening throughout the week and are open to degree candidates and other adults interested in taking university level courses, seminars and workshops. Our seven-week terms begin in January, March, May, July, September, and November. These seven-week classes meet 3-hours a day, twice a week.

ACT 650 - Accounting For Decision Making
3 credits
Interpretation of corporate financial reporting by external users of financial statements. Students examine the form and content of financial statements and the methods used to account for assets, liabilities, capital, cash flows and other information reported in conformity with accounting principles. While pure financial accounting focuses on the external interpretation of corporate financial reporting, this course includes internal reporting for managerial decision-making. Management planning and control techniques, basic cost analysis, capital budgeting and activity-based management are encompassed in the course.

EDU 207 - Teaching As Profession

Up to 20 hours pre-practicum. Introduces students considering education as a career to the real world of teaching through an in-depth, candid analysis of the teaching profession today. This interactive course explores the challenges and rewards of teaching, studies the history, philosophy, sociology, and politics of American education, and focus on the major educational issues, trends, and reform movements. Students complete pre-practicum/observation hours in a teaching/learning experience. Students study theoretical aspects of cooperative learning and constructivism and practice them first hand through discussion groups and work teams.

This course will introduce students to the basic concepts of sociolinguistic anthropology in local, bilingual/bicultural Portuguese communities. Students will explore and study the behavioral dynamics of human communication and code switching in Portuguese households and a variety of public domains. The relationships between language, culture and society will be illustrated by regional expressions of ethnic differentiation and assimilation in distinctive Portuguese communities located on the South Coast.
