Mass Transportation Links

Map of the Southcoast Region.

UMass Dartmouth and its satellite campuses are all in southeastern Massachusetts. The transportation links apply for all campuses; the taxi, rental cars, and hotel information is primarily for the main campus. See the individual building pages for addresses if you need more options.

Airport

Logan (Boston) is the main airport for the region, though many prefer T.F. Green Airport (Providence) for easier access. T.F. Green is closer to campus (43 minutes away), while Logan is over an hour away. The New Bedford Regional Airport is useful only to those flying from Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. We recommend those people take a ferry and drive to their destinations.

Trains

Providence and Boston are the closest main destinations; no rail service goes into southeastern Massachusetts. The Boston MBTA operates a commuter rail, whose Middleborough/Lakeville line comes closest to UMass Dartmouth. Buses are available near the Boston and Providence train stations, and these go to Fall River and New Bedford, which in turn offer buses that go to UMass Dartmouth.
  • AmTrack
The two closest stops to UMass Dartmouth are Boston and Providence. From either of these cities you can rent a car or take a bus to get to the local area.
  • MBTA
The commuter rail's Middleborough/Lakeville line comes closest to UMass Dartmouth. Another line goes to Providence on the Attleboro/Stoughton Line.

Ferry

We recommend arriving early if using a ferry, to take into account traffic and other delays. Ferries might be preferable to plans for travel to and from Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard for students and heavy commuters.

Buses

The SRTA Authority is the only bus service servicing UMass Dartmouth. One bus line runs between New Bedford and Fall River, and stops at UMass Dartmouth each way. See the bus schedule for times. The Fall River terminal is less than a block away from the Fall River Professional and Continuing Education Center; the New Bedford Terminal is 4 blocks north and east from the Star Store and 1 block north and east from the New Bedford Professional and Continuing Education Center. Both terminals have service to and from larger bus lines, going to Boston, Providence, and beyond.

Rental Cars

Avis and Enterprise have rental services in the area; all others have service around the airports.
