About the Dean

Dr. Robert Peck was appointed Dean of the College of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in August 2007. Prior to his appointment at UMass Dartmouth he was a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe where he served as Department Chair from 2001 – 2006 and Associate Chair from 1995 – 2001. He earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California-Berkeley in 1969, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California-Irvine in 1972 and 1976, respectively. His academic experience includes faculty positions at the University of Kentucky (1976 – 1984), Arizona State University (1984 – 2007), and a visiting position at the Technical University of Denmark (1992 – 1993). His research interests include sustainability engineering, combustion and energy systems, and engineering education. He has authored over 60 articles in his field, has one U.S. patent, and has had more than 25 grants funded by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration and various industries. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education, and The Combustion Institute. Dr. Peck received the SAE Teetor Award in 1977, has been listed in American Men and Women of Science and is a member of Sigma Xi.
