Abstract: |
Optical burst switching is one of the most promising next-generation all-optical data transport paradigms. In this paper, we discuss forward error correction as a candidate for providing loss recovery in an optical burst-switched network. We develop a network-level analytical model to evaluate the packet loss probability of forward error correction loss recovery mechanism. We also develop a simulation model to investigate the proposed forward error correction loss recovery mechanism and to compare the performance of our proposed mechanism with the existing burst retransmission loss recovery mechanism. Our results show that the proposed mechanism significantly reduces the packet loss in an optical burst-switched network. |
