Changing majors

If you have been admitted to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, you may apply to change your major to Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The following transfer standards will apply to all UMass Dartmouth students other than Engineering Undeclared students.

‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Computer Engineering

Students may petition to enter the Computer Engineering major at any time both of the following requirements are met:

  1. A cumulative UMass Dartmouth Grade Point Average of 2.500 or higher.
  2. Satisfactory completion at UMass Dartmouth, with a GPA of 2.500 or higher, of five classes that fall under the conditions listed below. The calculation of the minimum GPA will be based on all classes completed from this list at the time of petitioning a change of major.
  • Two courses from this list: ECE 160, ECE 256, ECE 201, ECE 260 
  • Two courses from this list: MTH 151 (or MTH 153), MTH 152 (or MTH 154), MTH 211 (or MTH 213), MTH 212
  • One course from this list: PHY 111 (or PHY 113) or PHY 112 (or PHY 114)

‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Electrical Engineering

Students may petition to enter the Electrical Engineering major at any time both of the following requirements are met:

  1. A cumulative UMass Dartmouth Grade Point Average of 2.500 or higher.
  2. Satisfactory completion at UMass Dartmouth, with a GPA of 2.500 or higher, of five classes that fall under the conditions listed below. The calculation of the minimum GPA will be based on all classes completed from this list at the time of petitioning a change of major.
  • Two courses from this list: ECE 160, ECE 201, ECE 260 
  • Two courses from this list: MTH 151 (or MTH 153), MTH 152 (or MTH 154), MTH 211 (or MTH 213), MTH 212
  • One course from this list: PHY 111 (or PHY 113) or PHY 112 (or PHY 114)
