I grew up in Sharon, Massachusetts and came to University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in the Fall of 2001 as a Business major, but by the beginning of the Spring 2002 semester I knew that Business was not a field I wanted to pursue. I then transferred to the College of Arts and Sciences as an English Literature major for the Fall of 2002 semester. After taking a few Women’s Studies classes with Professors Juli Parker and Jen Riley, I realized that Women’s Studies was a field I wanted to pursue further. Professor Riley pointed me in the direction of the Multidisciplinary Major Program and I soon began developing my course plan and major goals.
After receiving approval, I continued taking both Women’s Studies and English classes eventually realizing that I wanted to become a college professor. Professor Riley helped me to create a plan of action to reach my goal, which included going to Graduate School following the completion of my degree at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. The Multidisciplinary Major Option best suited my educational goals because I have been able to have an educational experience which has crossed multiple fields of study.
I will be attending the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University, Athens in the Fall of 2005 to pursue a Master’s of the Arts in English Literature and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies. The University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth has more than adequately prepared me for the challenge of Graduate School, and I am eager to apply the multidisciplinary education I have received here in my future studies.
