Teaching Development Grants

Detailed descriptions, application procedures as well as past successful proposals for each of the grants are provided below.

All grant proposals should be sent to the Director. Deadlines will be announced at the beginning of each academic year.

Grant proposals are reviewed by a Center committee comprised of representatives from each of the academic councils. Contact the Director or members of the Grant Committee if you would like to discuss your ideas for any of these grants or receive more information about grant guidelines, application procedures, or review process.

Departmental/Interdepartmental Teaching Development Grants

  • The grants do not support the development of new programs or departments.
  • The maximum amount for the grants is $1000.00

Examples of possible project goals include (but are certainly not limited to):

  • Creating effective learning contexts for majors (e.g., capstone courses, service learning);
  • Developing interdisciplinary team teaching and course development;
  • Supporting the innovative use of technology;
  • Developing innovative laboratory/applied projects;
  • Improving sequencing of courses for majors (e.g., course mapping & curriculum analysis);
  • Improving particular aspects of the program (e.g., introductory courses; research skills of majors, etc.);
  • Developing approaches to discipline-specific problems (e.g., how to teach about "race"; supporting women in engineering; etc.).

See Departmental/Interdepartmental Teaching Development Grants for more information about this grant and the application process. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss grant ideas with the Director (contact) or members of the Grant Committee. See top of page for deadlines for grant proposals.

Innovation in Teaching

The Innovation in Teaching Grants support the development of faculty projects that seek to either Option 1) enhance teaching at UMass Dartmouth in significant and creative ways and/or Option 2) conduct scholarly research on university-level teaching and learning. Depending on funding, $25,000 is available to support these awards.
  • Successful grants for Option 1 will: clearly delineate an innovative project aimed at enhancing student learning; draw on relevant scholarship on teaching and learning; show how the project's impact will be sustained and assessed over time; have a clearly laid-out budget; and present a thoughtful plan for sharing the outcome with the UMass Dartmouth community.
  • Successful grants for Option 2 will: lay out a significant research question pertaining to university-level teaching and learning; present a clear methodology and research plan; draw on findings from relevant scholarly literature on teaching and learning; present plans for publication and scholarly communication.
See Innovation in Teaching Awards for more information about these awards and the application process. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss grant ideas with the Director (contact) and members of the Grant Committee. See top of page for deadlines for grant proposals.
