Teaching Development Travel Grants
GOALS
The Center for Teaching Excellence invites proposals from full and part-time UMass Dartmouth faculty that support their engagement with the scholarship of teaching and participation in regional and national-level discussions of university teaching. This includes support for travel and related expenses associated with:- attending meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars related to college-level teaching;
- presenting scholarly papers or workshops on college-level teaching and learning.
The number of travel grants available during the year will vary depending on funding.
GUIDELINES
Who is eligible?All UMass Dartmouth full and part-time faculty are eligible to apply. Applicants may only apply for one travel grant each fiscal year.
What is the amount of the grant?
The maximum level of support is $500.
When is the application deadline?
See top of prior page for grant deadlines. Applications received after the final
deadline will be considered until funding is exhausted. Applications initiated
after the completion of travel will generally not be approved.
What can the grant cover?
Travel and conference related expenses to teaching related conferences will
be reimbursed. Membership fees are not. Travel for discipline specific conferences
is not covered unless the proposed activity specifically addresses teaching
and learning in higher education. Preference in funding will be given to those
presenting at the conference, but it is not a requirement.
How should the results from grant-related travel be communicated to the UMass Dartmouth community?
Faculty receiving support are expected to communicate what they have learned
to those in their perspective department through a presentation to all department
faculty that must be arranged with their Chair. CTE must be notified of the
date of the presentation and may send a representative to attend.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Send completed applications via email attachment to the Director (see contact us).Applications should be concise and direct--under no circumstances should it be longer than 2 pages. There is no standard form. Your application should include the following:

1. Background information: Name, department, status/rank, courses taught,
telephone, e-mail
2. Description of Activity:

• What conference or workshop you plan to attend?
• What is the title of your proposed paper (if there is one)?
• What are the dates of travel?
• Include description and program of conference or workshop.

4. Dissemination Plans: How will you disseminate your experiences and
results of this project to the UMass Dartmouth community?

SELECTION PROCESS
The Grant Committee is comprised of representatives of each of the Academic Councils and the Center Director. All efforts will be made to evaluate proposals and send notification decisions in a timely manner. A written explanation will be provided to applicants whose proposals are declined. Inquiries regarding the review criteria and Grant Committee's decisions may be directed to the Center Director.
