American Online (AOL) Compatibility Issues

The built-in AOL web browsers are not compatible with the https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/index.jsp web site. Attempting to use an AOL web browser will prevent you from successfully completing the Electronic Master Promissory Note process and will cause "Session Expired" errors. To use a non-AOL browser, please follow these steps:

For Windows users:

  1. Connect to AOL.
  2. Minimize the AOL Window by clicking on the minimize button located on the top right hand corner of the screen.
  3. Go to: Start|Programs|Internet Explorer --or-- Start|Programs|Netscape
  4. After you have started either Internet Explorer or Netscape, go to https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/index.jsp

For Macintosh users:

  1. Connect to AOL
  2. Hide the AOL window by using the finder menu at the top right of the Macintosh menu bar.
  3. Locate the Internet Explorer or Netscape icon on your desktop, on your hard drive, or on the Apple menu and double click it.
  4. After you have started either Internet Explorer or Netscape, go to https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/index.jsp
