Verification
Any student may be selected for verification by the federal government or Financial Aid Services. The verification process requires Financial Aid Services to review the information reported on the FAFSA and to check for accuracy against documents you provide to our office.
You will be notified if you are selected for verification. If selected for the 2012-2013 academic year, you must submit your 2011 federal tax return transcript as well as your 2011 W-2s from all employers. If you are married, your spouse’s 2011 federal tax return transcript and W-2s are also required. If you are a dependent student, your parents’ 2011 federal tax return transcript, including W-2s, must also be submitted. A Verification Worksheet will be mailed to you by UMass Dartmouth. This worksheet must be completed, signed, and returned to UMass Dartmouth.
Verification documents should be submitted as soon after notification as possible so that the verification process can be completed. Documents must be received by UMass Dartmouth at least one month prior to the last day a student is enrolled at least half time to allow adequate time to review these documents. The verification process must be completed prior to the last day a student is enrolled at least half time. If the student selected for verification is a Pell Grant recipient, the verification process must be completed no later than 60 days after the last day of at least half time enrollment, or August 30, 2013, whichever is earlier.
Depending on the time of year, an estimated financial aid eligibility letter may be sent pending verification of your file. Usually, all required documents must be received and reviewed before a financial aid award can be determined. Due to heavy volume in summer and early fall, there may be a delay in the review of materials submitted. Funds will not be applied as payment to your student account or disbursed to you until the verification process is completed.
