Grants and Waivers
Federal Pell Grant
- a federally funded program administered by the U.S. Department of Education
- eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need
- for 2009-2010, the Federal Pell Grant award range is from $609 to $5,350 depending on enrollment status and Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The maximum EFC to be eligible for Pell in 2009-2010 is 4617.
- the amount of the grant is based on eligibility determined by the federal government
- available to undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor's degree
- does not need to be repaid
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- a federal grant awarded by Financial Aid Services at UMD
- eligibility is based directly on demonstrated financial need
- the maximum SEOG award is $4,000. Award amounts vary depending on funding. Eligibility consideration is limited to Pell Grant recipients.
- available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time in a degree program
- does not need to be repaid
Need-Based Tuition Waiver/Mass. Access Grant
- State funded waiver / grant programs awarded by Financial Aid Services at UMD
- eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need
- available to undergraduate students who are Massachusetts residents
- applies to state funded undergraduate degree courses only
- does not need to be repaid
Connections Program
Students may earn a $500 fee waiver by performing 50 hours each semester of comunity service work or on-campus research. All enrolled UMass Dartmouth students are eligible to be considered for this program.
University Scholarship
- an institutional fee waiver awarded by Financial Aid Services at UMD
- eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need
- available to students enrolled at least half-time in a degree program
- does not need to be repaid
MassGrant Program
- a state funded program administered by the Office of Student Financial Assistance of the Board of Higher Education
- eligibility is based directly on demonstrated financial need
- available to undergraduate students enrolled full-time who are Massachusetts residents (and dependents' parents must also be residents)
- must file FAFSA prior to May 1
- does not need to be repaid
Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
- federally funded program for first and second year students
- student must be eligible for federal Pell Grant and have completed a rigorous high school program of study
- award amount is $750 for first year and $1,300 for second year. Second year renewal requires minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
National SMART Grant
- federally funded program for third and fouth year students
- student must be eligible for federal Pell Grant and be enrolled in specific majors
- award amount is up to $4,000 per year. Renewal each semester requires maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point average each semester.
DCE Grant
- need-based grant program funded through the Division of Professional and Continuing Education for students in the Pathways program.
MASSGrant Part Time Grant Program
- a state funded program administered by the Office of Student Financial Assistance of the Board of Higher Education
- student must be a matriculated Massachusetts resident attending part time (6-11 credits)
- eligibility is determined by the Financial Aid Office based on need and the availability of funds
- does not need to be repaid
