For matriculated students. Read descriptions for eligibility requirements and application process. If a separate application is required, it will be listed with the scholarship.

For those scholarships that require a Merit-based General Scholarships & Eligibility Application, only one completed application is necessary to be considered for multiple scholarships.

To award a deserving senior undergraduate in the Education Department who is committed to a teaching career in Massachusetts.

Joseph and Mary Baptista Memorial Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences who are studying the Portuguese language, history or culture. Decisions are based on demonstrated financial need; students’ scholastic achievement in Portuguese, and on the basis of the students’ overall scholastic achievements based upon the students’ minimum 3.0 GPA.

Recipients may apply for successive Baptista Scholarships, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Francelina S. and Manuel S. Barreira Fund

For undergraduate or graduate students at UMass Dartmouth who graduated from BMC Duree High School in Fall River; majoring in Portuguese Studies; demonstrate financial need; and are in good academic standing.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Boivin Center Scholarship

New freshman undergraduate student with strong academic achievement and demonstrated academic involvement in the French Language and culture.

Center for Portuguese Studies Scholarship

Student with a minor or major in Portuguese.

Marie Sklodowska Curie

To support female UMD student majoring in science, mathematics or engineering. Preference given to a student of Polish descent.

Professor Scott J. Dickman Scholarship Fund

To assist a full-time, matriculated junior, senior or graduate student who has declared a major in Psychhology. Student must demonstrate financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

W. E. Burghardt DuBois Scholarship

Preference given to African-American or other person of color with demonstrated financial need who has completed at least 24 credits with an overall GPA of 2.7.

This scholarship is renewable for a total of three years so long as the recipient completes at least 24-credits each year (fall and spring semesters) and maintains an overall GPA at UMD of at least 2.70.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Anthony J. Felix Scholarship

For undergraduate UMD students pursuing a career in social work or teaching. Award is based on academic record and demonstrated financial need. Incoming freshmen not eligible.

Senator Mary L. Fonseca Scholarship

For incoming students who are Fall River residents. Preference will be given to female students with a record of outstanding academic achievement who plan to major in political science or one of the liberal arts.

Demonstrated financial need, extra-curricular leadership and service to the community will also be taken into consideration.

Jesse B. Frizzell Scholarship

Demonstrated financial need. Preference to full-time, matriculated undergraduate students majoring in either biology or chemistry at UMass Dartmouth. Preference will be given to students from the Little Compton, RI or Middletown, RI regions.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Gertrude M. Keigher Memorial Scholarship Fund

For a UMD undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in either an Engineering degree (odd years) or a Mathematics degree (even years). Must have demonstrated financial need.

Engineering majors apply odd years, e.g. Fall 2015: Visit the College of Engineering website for instructions and applications.

Mathematics major apply even years, e.g. Fall 2014: A completed FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Jennie S. Mierzejewski Scholarship

To provide support for a sophomore student majoring in Mathematics and who has demonstrated financial need.

Francis X. O'Brien Scholarship

To provide support for students majoring in Biology and who have demonstrated financial need.

Portuguese American Civic League

For students of Portuguese extraction and/or those who exhibit desire to study and promote the Portuguese language and culture.

PACL Scholarship Application

Rezendes, Marcellino and Barreira Scholarship Endowment

For undergraduate students who are majoring in Portuguese language or in Portuguese Studies. Preference is for students who are from Fall River, MA.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Edward J. Ryan Scholarship Fund

For full time entering freshman student majoring in Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology. Student must be a US citizen or permanent resident; demonstrate high academic achievement; demonstrate community service; and demonstrate leadership.

Applicants will include a short essay explaining why they chose their major and what they hope to accomplish with their degree. Based on merit and financial need, with an emphasis on merit.

This scholarship is renewable for a total of six semesters beyond freshmen year (maximum 8 semesters). Students must complete application annually; maintain full-time status; maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better; continue in approved field of study; and submit a letter to the UMass Dartmouth Advancement Office requesting renewal for another year by March 1.

Professor Louis S.J. and Margaret Simeone Scholarship

To support fully matriculated engineering undergraduate students (even years) or mathematics undergraduate students (odd years) at the University with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who are maintaining a 3.2 GPA with demonstrated academic and/or professional accomplishments.

Engineering majors apply even years, e.g. Fall 2014, 2016, etc.

Mathematics major apply odd years, e.g. Fall 2015, 2017, etc.

Simeone Scholarship Application

Samuel Stone Scholarship Fund

To a support full-time, junior level student(s) enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences. Preference will be given to students who possess a strong math aptitude, a keen interest in mathematics, and demonstrated leadership skills within the campus community. Consideration will also be given towards academic achievement or improvement throughout the student’s college career.

The Tacy Scholarship

Provide a merit scholarship to support two students – male or female – who are majoring in the Liberal Arts and who possess an interest in Religious Studies. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, be the first in their family to attend college, reside in southeastern Massachusetts, and have demonstrated financial need.

James & Frances Tingle Scholarship

For full time undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences. Financial need is considered but emphasis is placed on academic performances of no less than a GPA of 3.0.

Dennis Tucker Memorial Endowment

To assist undergraduate students pursuing a degree in a medically related field (i.e. nursing, medical lab. sciences, etc.) who have demonstrated financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Gerald Ventura, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

For full-time matriculated graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Political Science and who has demonstrated financial need. Transfer students are also eligible.

Roger & Jeanne Violette Fund

To support undergraduate students who are studying health related fields such as nursing and med lab sciences. Financial need will be the basis for scholarship awards.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Hank Walker Scholarship

Massachusetts resident and citizen or permanent resident of the United States with demonstrated financial need enrolled full-time in an engineering, med lab sciences or nursing degree program.

Preference will be given to veterans of the US Armed Forces and returning students after an absence of at least five years and has completed at least 24-credit hours of satisfactory work.

Scholarship is renewable for a limit of five academic years of receipt as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and has a GPA of at least 3.0. If a student falls below 3.0 and above 2.5 for two consecutive semesters, student is no longer eligible for the scholarship.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.
