College of Visual & Performing Arts Scholarships

For matriculated students. Read descriptions for eligibility requirements and application process. If a separate application is required, it will be listed with the scholarship.

For those scholarships that require a Merit-based General Scholarships & Eligibility Application, only one completed application is necessary to be considered for multiple scholarships.

Bruce Yenawine Scholarship

For a student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Award decisions are based on merit and financial need, and scholarship is available to graduate or undergraduate students.

Emil "Smokey" Ameen Endowment Scholarship

For a UMD undergraduate student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts who exhibit the promise of artistic achievement. Based on academic merit.

There is no application process. The recipient shall be determined by the CVPA.

Booth Family Book Fund

For a matriculated student in the College of Visual & Performing Arts and who is an employee of the Claire T. Carney Library. Award decision will be based on academic merit.

Samuel & Sarah Bradbury Scholarship

For a student majoring in Art History and who has demonstrated financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Frances A. Canto Art Scholarship

For a student with demonstrated financial need and who is majoring in Fine Arts with preference to those students who have a focus on painting. Preference will be given to students who are residents of Somerset or New Bedford.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Community Education Council of Greater Fall River Excellence Award

For an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Fine Arts.

There is no application process. The recipient shall be determined by the CVPA.

Henry H. Crapo Endowed Scholarship

For an undergraduate or graduate student from the New Bedford area who is attending UMass Dartmouth's College of Visual and Performing Arts in New Bedford.

Thomas J. Curry Scholarship

For a student with demonstrated financial need and who is enrolled in the CVPA. Preference will be given to students who are from the SouthCoast region and are majoring in Digital Media in the Department of Design.

There is no application process. The recipient shall be determined by the CVPA.

Karon Richardson Doherty Memorial Scholarship

To assist undergraduate or graduate students who are studying ceramics. Preference for scholarship awards will be based on artistic ability first and financial need second.

Samuel Gamburd Memorial Art Scholarship

For a graduate or undergraduate UMD student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts who is majoring in design or fine arts. In odd-numbered years, the scholarship is available for students in the Design Dept. In even-numbered years, the scholarship is for students in the Fine Arts Dept. Award decisions based on artistic talent and demonstrated financial need.

Ayuko Ito Scholarship Fund

For full-time undergraduate students at the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Lillian Telles Jenkins Scholarship

To assist a graduate or undergraduate full-time, matriculated students in CVPA. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Edward K. Johnson Memorial Annual Prize

For undergraduate, full-time matriculated student majoring in Sculpture. This scholarship is based on artistic merit.

There is no application process. The recipient shall be determined by the CVPA.

Ronald J. LaMeire Memorial Scholarship

For an entering freshman in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, specifically in painting. Must demonstrate financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

David and Alfrede Myerson Scholarship

For students majoring in any of the Fine Arts (painting, sculpting, printmaking). In awarding this scholarship, talent will be the first criteria and financial need, the second.

Swain School of Design Alumni Scholarship Fund

Scholarships specifically for current Junior students who have passed Sophomore portfolio review the previous spring and are majoring in Design (graphic design, illustration, photography) or Fine Arts (painting, printmaking, sculpture).

There is no application process. The recipient shall be determined by the CVPA.

Cecilia B. Ward Scholarship

For deserving students with specific literary or performing arts talent. Must demonstrate consistent outstanding achievement in the selected areas as indicated on her/his academic record and must be prepared to present a performance or reading of an original essay in a public forum at UMD.
