The F.I.R.S.T. UMass Dartmouth Book Festival
Over the past 40 years, UMass Dartmouth has distinguished itself as a vibrant university actively engaged in innovated research, personalized teaching, and public service to enhance the intellectual, social, and cultural development of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Thus, in keeping with this mission, FYRE is pleased to present the FIRST UMass Dartmouth Festival of Books. Complimenting the university’s “Wall of Scholarship,” located on the third floor of the Foster Administration Building, the Festival celebrates the achievements of university authors - “their research, their scholarship, and the creative ideas that flow from their imagination and experiences.”
But, unlike traditional book festivals where participants can be overwhelmed with diverse authors, publications, and other literary events, UMass Dartmouth’s Festival of Books offers an informal friendly atmosphere where you will meet selected faculty and administrators who are engaged in the discovery of new knowledge, the teaching of that knowledge, and the integration of that knowledge into the college experience.
The Festival of Books will be held on June 23, June 27, June 30, July 7, & July 11, the second day of each freshman orientation. This one-hour program will begin at 1:00 pm at the Woodland Commons. At each session, a display showcasing various publications reflected on the Wall of Scholarship will be available. Additionally, distinguished university authors will discuss how their scholarship enhances their teaching. This event serves as a reminder of the university’s commitment to the continued development and maintenance of an academic community where the scholarly research and creative ideas of faculty, administrators, and students are interwoven with the collegiate experience.
