Definitions of Ethics and Social Responsibility
A. Ethics: The discipline dealing with what is good and bad, and moral duty and responsibility (Webster, 1993). The ethical decision-making process involves making choices consistent with a moral code. Of necessity, it involves moral reasoning or judgment.
B. Social Responsibility: The most basic definition includes responsibility to "others."
Curriculum Standards
A student will have met the requirement in the area of Ethics and Social Responsibility upon successful completion of:
- One three credit course which has a minimum of 12 hours of class content concerning ethics/social responsibility; or
- 2. A Department/College curriculum requirement which includes 12 lecture hours across the major, assigned readings, and evaluation criteria regarding ethics/social responsibility.
