The Ora M. DeJesus Gerontology Center

The Certificate & Minor Programs

A total of 24 credits are needed for the gerontology certificate, and 18 for a minor in gerontology.

Certificate candidates take required courses such as Introduction to Gerontology, Biology of Aging, Mental Health and Aging, Aging, Health and Community Support, the senior seminar, a gerontology practicum, and two gerontology electives.  The practicum provides students with the opportunity to work in a variety of health and human service agencies and develop positive attitudes toward aging.

Required courses for the minor include Introduction to Gerontology, Senior Gerontology Seminar, and four electives chosen from within the gerontology field.

All courses are interdisciplinary in nature and are offered in collaboration with various colleges and departments across the campus.
