Today, UMass Dartmouth administers approximately eighteen million dollars in externally funded projects, including research, educational support and training projects. In the last six years, the level of funding has tripled. This increase in activity is reflected in the graduate programs, expanded research opportunities for faculty, more selectivity in the projects the University seeks and thus a more obvious relationship between research activities and UMass Dartmouth's stated mission. The result is an enhanced academic environment: excellence in the education offered at UMass Dartmouth; increased research ventures by faculty and a growing reputation of distinction in the greater educational community. All of these elements rest solely on the excellence of the faculty that can be attracted and retained by UMass Dartmouth.
The Office of Research Administration will provide you with assistance in identifying potential funding sources, circulating important grant program information, their requirements & deadlines, developing competitive applications, reviewing budget & cost effectiveness, providing editorial assistance, negotiating contracts and acting as the administrative liaison with a funding agency and/or other administrative divisions of the University. We encourage you to consult with us in developing a competitive proposal.
Description of Services
The Office of Research Administration is responsible for administering and supporting the University's mission of placing a major emphasis upon research and academic creativity on the part of faculty and students. The Office provides three basic services to the University Community:
- Research and Information: Our office receives and collects many types of research information, and we have access to several funding publications and online databases. We can help you identify funding opportunities. The Office of Research Administration maintains current information on sources most responsive to UMass Dartmouth's need, current files on federal and state grant policies, patent and contract administration and regulatory compliance information. We can also provide training for new investigators and answer your questions regarding research.
- Proposal Development and Submission: We can assist you in all aspects of proposal development and submission. All proposals submitted on behalf of the Institution by an investigator must be reviewed and approved by Office of Research Administration prior to being sent out.
- Award Negotiation: Our office is responsible for negotiating all awards and contractual agreements on behalf of UMassD. Once an award or contract is made, Grants and Contracts works in conjunction with the Grant Accounting and transfers the necessary documentation to them for post-award account management.
Please remember we encourage the faculty to stop by our office or set up a meeting with either the Director or Grant Coordinator so that we may provide any of these services.
