Welcome to UMass Dartmouth Homecoming and Family Weekend
September 25-27, 2009
This year’s events have been designed to bring together the entire UMass Dartmouth Family—current students and their families, alumni, faculty, and staff. We encourage you to take advantage of all of the activities and programs that have been planned both on and off campus.
For parents, this is an opportunity to visit with your son or daughter, meet his or her new friends, and get to know better what university life is like. For alumni, it’s a chance to renew old acquaintances, visit with faculty members who influenced you, and reflect with nostalgia on the “good ole days.”
Everyone can take a tour of the campus, enjoy a men’s soccer game or a women’s tennis match, and, of course, there’s the homecoming football game.
University administrators and professors are on hand to meet you, answer your questions, and discuss what’s happening with education today. We encourage you to attend one of the “Exploration” sessions, beginning at 11am, in which faculty members will make presentations about their various fields as well as about some of the notable research being done on campus.
Plenty of activities will continue throughout the afternoon. You can enjoy entertaining student performances and view our Freshman Art Exhibit. Youngsters will have a good time at the rock-climbing wall, the moon bounce, and other inflatable entertainment. Enjoy local fruits and vegetables at the farmers’ market.
Evening events include the Friday night “Ratt” for alumni and Saturday’s UMass Dartmouth Night at the Caddy Shack, where families are sure to have a great time. We hope you'll take the opportunity to become better acquainted with our neighboring communities and learn about their distinctive features.
After Sunday’s brunch, please explore the many attractions that make the SouthCoast such an appealing region. Visit the Buttonwood Zoo in New Bedford, a five minute drive east of the campus. Drive 5 minutes west to the town of Westport and rent a kayak to paddle along the Westport River. The Star Store arts campus and the Ocean Explorium in New Bedford will be open for tours. You can also stop in at New Bedford’s Working Waterfront Festival and experience the workings of America’s largest commercial fishing port.
Mix and mingle…enjoy all the campus events and programs…explore the area…and have a great time.
