High school applicants to UMass Dartmouth as are accepted into the Honors Program as part of the overall UMD admissions process. There is not a separate application process.
Space in the Honors Program is extremely limited. For the most recent entering class of 120 students, the average GPA was 3.9 and the average combined math + verbal SAT score was 1260.
Transfer students who have participated successfully in the Commonwealth Honors Program at other colleges and universities in the Massachusetts public system of higher education are automatically eligible for membership in the UMass Dartmouth Honors Program. The University Honors Program accepts up to 12 Honors transfer credits from other institutions participating in the Commonwealth Honors Program.
Transfer students who have not previously participated in the Commonwealth Honors Program may apply to join the UMass Dartmouth Honors Program. Admission into the Honors Program is normally limited to those students who have completed 40 or fewer university credits, including advanced placement test credits. The 40 credit limit is usually waived in the case of transfer students who participated in Honors Programs at their previous institution.
Students who have already begun their studies at UMass Dartmouth may apply to join the Honors Program on the basis of their academic performance at UMass Dartmouth. Admission is normally limited to those students who have completed 40 or fewer university credits, including transfer and advanced placement test credits.
Room for students who apply to join Honors after arriving at UMD is made available by the dismissal of first-year students who fail to meet the minimum academic requirements of the program. At the end of the fall semester, all first-semester Honors students with UMD GPAs of less than 3.0 are dismissed from Honors, and these spaces are made available to students who applied to join after arriving at UMD. This process is repeated at the end of the spring semester.
Students wishing to join the Honors Program on the basis of their UMass Dartmouth grades should complete the application form below and submit it by the appropriate deadline.
Decisions will be made shortly after grades are posted at the end of the semester. You must apply before the end of the semester in order to be considered at the end of that semester. Notification will be by email.
If accepted, you must come into compliance with the Honors Program requirements as quickly as possible. The Honors Program requirements and course listing are posted on the Honors Program web site. At a minimum, successful applicants must add at least one Honors course to their schedules for the following semester. This can be done by swapping one or two of the courses in which you are preregistered for Honors courses that meet equivalent college, university, or major requirements. You must be in full compliance with the Honors Program requirements by the end of your second semester in the program.
