Beginning in 1986, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has held an Honors Convocation each spring on the first Wednesday in May. Over its first twenty years, the Honors Convocation grew and changed as the University did, with individual departments and other organizations adding more and different awards to the program. Last year, the Convocation became a smaller, more intimate event as colleges and some departments now host their own separate honors recognition events for awards relevant to specific academic areas.
Students recognized at this ceremony have accomplished one or more of the following:
- achieved the highest grade point averages
- received prestigious named university-wide scholarships or awards
- completed the undergraduate four-year honors curriculum to become Commonwealth Scholars
- merited other specific university-wide recognitions
Many other students at UMass Dartmouth have achieved personal and academic successes and have made strong efforts to excel. Today’s honorees represent and help us celebrate the high aspirations and academic achievements of these many students.
