Woodlands Community

History

The new Woodlands Community consists of 6 residential buildings, 1 commons building, 2 regulations-size basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, and an inline-skating arena. This 72 million dollar project will create 1,200 student bed spaces, function/conference space, and state-of-the-art recreational facilities. Willow and Evergreen Residence Halls opened in January of 2005. Hickory, Birch, Aspen, and Ivy Residence Halls will open in September 2005 as well as The Commons building and athletic areas.

Woodlands Community Location

The Woodlands Community is located near the Tripp Athletic Center area. Willow, Evergreen, Hickory and Birch Residence Halls are located in the interior of the Ring Road sector. Aspen and Ivy Residence Halls are located on the exterior of Ring Road on the same side as the Tripp Athletic Center.

Apartment/Building Amenities


Each of the new residence halls has 4 floors and comprises approximately 200 bed spaces. Each hall offers a vast array of amenities. The apartments are fully furnished and provide the student bedrooms with a double bed, desk, chair, and built-in closets. The living/common space area has a television stand, couch, chair, and tables. The kitchen area of the apartment is equipped with a ceramic-top stove, refrigerator/freezer, ample cabinet space, 4 barstool chairs, as well as an eat-up alcove. The bedrooms, kitchen, and bathroom areas are all tiled. The living/common areas and hallways of the apartment are carpeted. The apartment bedrooms all provide identical square footage. There are two different types of apartments for students to choose; 2-bedroom/2 full baths or 4-bedroom/2 full baths.

Residence Hall Building Amenities

Each building provides the students with:

  • A central air system, which is controllable within each apartment.
  • Washer/dryers.
  • Snack and beverages vending machines.
  • Elevator access.
  • Fully carpeted hallways.

The Commons Building Space Provides

  • A 3,000 square foot function room that can be reserved by student organizations at no cost.
  • The 3,000 square foot function room is able to seat up to 300 people and can be separated into 3 sections at 1,000 sq. feet apiece.
  • Six other smaller meeting rooms/areas within The Commons available for reservation.
  • Audio/visual equipment in main function room.
  • Student Mailboxes.
  • Catering services available upon request and reservation of function room/rooms.

Student Parking in Woodlands Community

  • Student parking is limited directly around Woodlands Community residence halls.
  • Parking lots 8, 9, and 10 are reserved specifically for Woodlands Community residential students.
  • The amount of parking available to Woodland Community residents reflects one parking spot per resident student.
