Office of Housing & Residential Life

Friday, February 08, 2008

Dear Umass Dartmouth Parent:

Greetings to you from the office of Housing and Residential Life! As the snow begins to melt, we are preparing for on-line room selection 2008-2009 which takes place April 22nd thru May 2nd. Room selection is a Spring time campus wide event that allows all students an opportunity to choose a room/apartment as well as a roommate(s) for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Housing does have an exciting, new offering this year. Namely, theme based housing. Theme based housing will designate specific areas in residence halls as:
     a. 12 month housing - students can secure(lease) a room for a 12 month period
     b. quiet housing - residents maintain a quiet living atmosphere 24 hours a day
     c. graduate housing - apartments exclusively for graduate students
     d. substance awareness housing – substance (alcohol, elicit drugs) free environment

Additionally, room selection changes this year include:

  1. commuters being allowed to take part in the on-line room selection process
  2. contract signing as an on-line process
  3. room selection tutorials offered via the internet
  4. the opening of a completely remodeled Cedar Dell West
  5. campus wide (all residential building) expansion of recycling initiatives (“Going Green”)

In order to participate in the room selection, current residents must submit $200 non-refundable housing deposit (check) to their respective RA office. Commuters must submit $200 non-refundable housing deposit (check) to the Housing main office. Please note, if you need to pay your housing deposit by cash or credit card, do these types of transaction at Student Enrollment first; then, return receipt to respective RA office. Housing deposits are due between March 3rd and March 14, 2008.

Any student seeking ADA Reasonable Accommodations will be required to complete an application and provide supporting medical documentation. Applications and supporting materials are available to download off our website (www.umassd.edu/housing/information/welcome.cfm)  or can be picked up in the Elmwood Housing office.  All ADA paper work must be submitted to the housing office no later then Friday, March 28th to be guaranteed a reasonable accommodation.

Please have a discussion with your student regarding their 2008/09 housing plans. If you have any questions contact the Housing Office at housing@umassd.edu or visit our website at www.umassd.edu/housing.

Sincerely,
