Dear UMD Parent/Guardian: 

Greetings to you from the Office of Housing and Residential Life!  As the snow begins to melt, we are preparing for Room Selection 2008-2009.  Room Selection is a campus-wide event that occurs each spring and allows all students an opportunity to choose a room or apartment as well as roommate(s) for the 2008-2009 academic year.

In order to participate in Room Selection, your student must commit to the University a $200 non-refundable housing deposit during our Pre-Registration period (March 3rd – March 14th). Students should bring their deposits to their Resident Director (he/she has an office in your student’s residence hall) or to the Student Enrollment Center if paying the deposit with credit card or cash. If you decide to pay by cash or credit card,  your student needs to provide a receipt to the Resident Director during the pre- registration period. Each Resident Director will post flyers to include their office hours and locations throughout your student’s residence hall. 

Any student seeking ADA Reasonable Accommodations will be required to review ADA procedures and complete an application to be eligible for consideration.  In addition to the download links to the left, ADA procedures and an application can be obtained from the Resident Director during the Pre-Registration period or in the Housing office at any point in time.

Room Selection itself will take place on-line this year.  Specific dates and times of registration to pick a room will be sent to your student’s Umass Dartmouth e-mail address. It is your student’s responsibility to check their University e-mail. Important information regarding the 2008-2009 Room Selection process will also be posted through out campus.

Please have a discussion with your student regarding their 2008-2009 housing plans.  We are asking for your support to help remind your student of the pre-registration deposit deadline.  If students miss the deposit deadline they will forfeit their chance to participate in the room selection process.  It is also important to know that the Housing and Dining Services Contract is for the entire 2008-2009 academic year.  Once your student has signed the contract, they will be legally obligated to pay for the entire year. 

We will be blanketing the campus with a great amount of publicity for this event, including flyers, posters, and announcements at RA floor meetings as well as UMD Announcements. Please note that all Cedar Dell housing will be opened for the 2008-2009 academic year!
