Life On Campus

The Residence Life program promotes a living-learning philosophy that encompasses community living in an educational and cultural setting. Community living helps to provide personal growth, support and the assurances that a student needs during his/her college years. The residential life philosophy at UMD incorporates the following concepts:

  • A safe and secure environment where students are held accountable for their behavior and actions;
  • Diversity and interdependence in facilities and personnel;
  • Community living;
  • Student development and cultural awareness enhanced through the living-learning process.
  • Personal development in UMD residences is at the heart of an environment where self-discipline prevails.
  • We promote personal and cultural awareness in the residential community.

The mission of the Woodland Community is to accommodate a more mature, responsible student population and to assist the residents in adjusting to a more independent lifestyle in preparation for graduation. Students who begin the year in the Woodland Community are not required to purchase a meal plan. Students who begin their year in the Residence Halls and are relocated to the Woodland Community area will be required to maintain their food service contract throughout the year.
