Director's Statement

On behalf of the Department of Housing and Residential Life allow me to welcome you to the residential facilities at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. We are excited about your involvement in our on-campus community!.

Keep in mind, your new home is not just your own room, but also all the people who make UMass Dartmouth so special. From the Chancellor, to the faculty, to your RA and RD, to the dining hall staff, to the custodian in your residential area, and your classmates and neighbors – they’re all part of the community you now call home.

We believe that your new home in the residence hall is more than just a place to sleep. By living on-campus, you have an exciting opportunity to grow personally and intellectually by building more inclusive friendships, exploring new ideas, and involving yourself in your residential community and the whole university. We hope you will learn to make good decisions, maintain healthy relationships, and become exceptional citizens in this community.

Our staff recognizes that you will spend approximately two-thirds of your time on-campus in your residence hall. We will use this opportunity to enhance your college experience by attempting to create a living and learning environment. The Residence Life staff are here to provide an experience that will compliment your academic life.

We also strive to provide you with a safe and comfortable living environment conducive to your intellectual pursuits. Your physical comfort, safety and security is of the utmost importance. Consequently, over 200 Housing and Residential Life staff work daily to respond to your 24-hour needs.

The success of your on campus experience depends a lot on you, and it is our hope that you will take an active role in determining that success. Your commitment and involvement will be significant in making your residential experience rewarding and satisfying.
