The Department of Foreign Literature and Languages invites applications for the position of Director of the Language Laboratory. The appointment will be as a Full Time Lecturer in the faculty bargaining unit and is for an initial period of one year. The position may be renewed subject to performance as assessed in personnel evaluations and recommendations. The appointment requires service during the academic year, September 1 through the following May 31, and during the summer months, subject to needs of summer course offerings.
Summer work involves an additional stipend.

The successful candidate will be at the forefront in the use of technology in language teaching and learning, and will demonstrate knowledge of and experience with state-of-the art technologies, pedagogies, and curriculum design to support language learning. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining all equipment and materials of the lab in workable condition, scheduling all use of all of the facilities of the lab, supporting and working with faculty as they make use of the equipment and materials available in the lab, planning activities in the lab that promote the enhancement of language teaching and learning, hiring and managing all student employees of the lab, purchasing equipment and materials, managing the lab's budget, interacting with all segments of the university community that make use of the lab, and maintaining general order of the entire lab facility. In addition, the successful candidate will teach a 3/3 course load over two semesters in languages at the elementary, intermediate and/or advanced levels, and will take an active role in planning and implementing the conversion to new technologies to support language learning.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Master’s degree in a foreign language, linguistics, the pedagogy of language learning, or a related field, sufficient to teach lower level undergraduate language courses.

• Knowledge of and experience with state-of-the art technologies, pedagogies, and curriculum design to support language learning.

• Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and ability to demonstrate innovative use of technology in teaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. in a foreign language, linguistics, the pedagogy of language learning, or a related field.

• Experience teaching languages or related fields at a college or university level.

• Ability to manage language learning facilities and technologies and to support faculty engaged in language instruction.
