Assistant Professor

The Department of Teaching & Learning and the Department of English invite applications for an Assistant Professor in English Language Learning. This tenure track, dual appointment would serve to compliment and integrate our programs. We are searching for a dynamic teacher-scholar, who is committed to excellence in teaching and research and will further our mission of critically educating diverse learners in a culturally and linguistically diverse setting. The candidate must have a Doctorate in Applied Linguistics with a focus in English as a Second Language/English Language Learning; in addition, the candidate must have 3 to 5 years of teaching experience in K-12 schools with a record of scholarship and demonstrated community service.

We are searching for a candidate with a strong foundation in effective pedagogy, a demonstrated capacity to effectively engage schools and local partnerships, and a commitment to furthering multiculturalism and promoting social justice. The ideal candidate would have experience with and a commitment to the education of pre-service teachers, knowledge of critical and culturally relevant pedagogies, WIDA standards and best practices in the education of English Language Learners, as well as knowledge of state and national accreditation. We are also looking for a candidate with a background in curriculum development in Middle/Secondary with a wide range of experiences in areas such as Universal Design for Learning, blended and online teaching formats. Possible courses include: Language and Its Use; Language and Culture; Theory and Practice in Teaching Reading and Writing; Composition; Psycholinguistics; Methods and Materials, Sheltered English Instruction.
