Department of Teaching and Learning Assistant Professor of Special Education
The Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks an assistant professor for a tenure track position in special education starting Fall 2013. Successful candidates will teach graduate courses in special education, supervise student practicum, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and advising, and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity. They should also have an ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, the ability to work collaboratively, evidence of scholarly activity, and a commitment to public higher education.
Faculty Members Duties and Responsibilities - Advise students working toward the Massachusetts licensure endorsement, as well as, academic program planning;
- Design, teach, and assess courses to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for teacher candidates and their students;
- Engage in scholarly activities related to the field of special education;
- Collaborate with department and college colleagues to ensure program quality, maintain state standards and work towards national accreditation;
- Participate in ongoing and regularly-scheduled Department, College, and University committees, faculty meetings, and meet all professional standards and program quality expectations; and working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
-Evidence of conceptual, methodological, and applied knowledge and skills in two or more of the following areas of expertise: Reading instruction, ELL instruction, Assistive and adaptive technology, Elementary/Early Childhood- Foundations in Education, Educational Psychology - Content Area in Elementary/Middle/Secondary.
In addition familiarity with UbD lesson planning and student supervision.
- Evidence of a demonstrated commitment to scholarship, including grants, publications, and presentations
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Special Education or related field from an accredited institution;
- Evidence of a minimum of 3-5 years successful K-12 classroom teaching experience with students with disabilities.
