The Space Planning Manager is responsible for general oversight of University space management procedures. This position will also: be responsible for compiling and evaluating requests for space from academic and administrative departments and meeting with departments to determine needs; analyze requests against standards for utilization; develop multiple solutions to address needs within existing space and budgetary restraints, including proposed space reallocations, programs, conceptual layouts, and scope of work, with budgetary and programmatic impacts identified, and make recommendations to senior administrators for approval and implementation; develop detailed program statements for reallocations and related renovations and capital projects; manage full project continuum to conclusion including the coordination of other professionals involved in projects; and perform other duties as assigned.
The Space Planning Manager does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but may direct the work of other professional and support staff as well as consultants as projects require. This position may assist the University Architect with the coordination of the activities and training of temporary help and/or student workers. This position reports to the University Architect.
Minimum Qualifications:
· BS/BA with concentration in planning, space planning, architecture, interior design or related Architectural/Interior Design field
· Significant (5-7 years) experience with interior space planning for an institutional setting
· Position may involve climbing or crawling to analyze spaces
· Significant knowledge of architectural design procedures and terminology
· Ability to develop as-built drawings from actual conditions that may involve climbing or crawling and measuring dimensions
· Ability to establish good working relationships with users, staff and vendors
· Should be independent, organized, creative, and possess strong analytical and technical skills
· Must have strong oral/written communication skills and a customer service focus
· Ability to prepare technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing
· Able to utilize the following computer applications: Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD
· Working knowledge of space management software systems
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in a University setting as a space planner or in an architecture capacity.
