Applications Developer
This position is strategic to the University goal of growing online academic programs, improving recruitment and retention of students, and increasing UMass Dartmouth's presence on mobile devices. Works as a member of the IT Development Department to develop and support the data integration for instructional technology applications such as Blackboard or CourseEval. Codes, tests, implements, and integrates database driven web application solutions incorporating existing systems and software where possible. The Applications Developer will implement and maintain data integration automation between the University’s system-wide PeopleSoft systems, the local campus data store, and local or off-site applications. Supports systems residing on Linux/UNIX platforms or any operating system that supports Internet software and Web based technologies. Additionally, the Applications Developer will program extranet and intranet web based applications critical to the mission of Instructional Development and IT within the University. This individual will also work closely with the Instructional Development team and other IT teams to adhere to University standards and policies in the implementation of applications. The incumbent will routinely utilize SQL, PHP, HTML/CSS, JavaScript/AJAX/JSON, UNIX shell scripting, and Java.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in a Software Engineering related field.
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated experience in web application programming in Java, PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS/JavaScript.Demonstrated experience automating data integration processes using utilities such as SQL, shell scripts, cron jobs, Web services.Demonstrated experience customizing, enhancing, and troubleshooting web application packages.Demonstrated knowledge of Linux web servers in a virtualized Apache/PHP/PostgreSQL/MySQL environment.
OTHER: Must be available to respond to situations that arise during off-hours, weekends or evenings. Some travel to off-campus meetings required.
