Professional Technician I - College of Visual and Performing Arts

The Professional Technician provides technical support, maintenance and repair of studio facilities and equipment for the Departments of Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewelry/Metals, Textile Design/Fiber Arts and Wood/Furniture Design. As Professional Technician, you will primarily support studio activities in the CVPA building on the Dartmouth campus and at the Star Store Building in New Bedford.

The successful applicant has significant technical knowledge and capabilities in equipment maintenance and the ability to maintain and repair tools, equipment and ventilation systems typically found in art studios. Knowledge of and ability to maintain combustion fixtures, cutting torches and oxidation apparatus are requires. Must be able to fabricate equipment using welding and carpentry skills and to order supplies and equipment and maintain security of inventory. Must be able to communicate and collaborate with faculty, students and staff.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Art or related subject as well as experience providing technical support, maintenance or repair of art studio facilities is required. Experience in implementing safety protocols is essential. Carpentry and welding experience fabricating equipment is a must.
