Upward Bound Program - Summer Positions Available

The UPWARD BOUND Program at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is currently recruiting applicants for employment in its six week Summer Program.  All positions require demonstrated sensitivity to needs of low income and disadvantaged youth and ability to relate well to students of diverse ethnic backgrounds.  Vacancies for the following positions are anticipated:
 
Teachers: Math, English, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish, Computer Science
To provide high school level instruction and to promote the total growth of the students in a summer residential program for students of diverse, non-traditional backgrounds.  Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in respective discipline, two (2) years of successful teaching experience, preferably with high school students.  Preferred:  Mass. Academic Advisor-  Provide individual and group counseling to students and to provide transition college workshops.  Minimum requirements:  Bachelor’s degree, experience working with disadvantaged students at the secondary level.  Preferred qualifications:  Master’s degree in student services related area, experience working with disadvantaged students at the secondary level.  Preferred qualifications:  Master’s degree in student services related area, experience with career exploration and planning.  $420/weekly. Residential Supervisor – Administers residential operations in a dormitory of 75 students and supervises a staff of 12 tutor/mentors and Asst. Residential Supervisor.  Minimum requirements:  preferred Bachelor’s degree, two years college campus residential living experience as a student or staff, and one year successful experience working with disadvantaged secondary school students.  Preferred:  experience as a staff member of an Upward Bound summer program, this is a live-in position.  $472.50 weekly. Assistant Residential Supervisor – Provides assistance to Residential Supervisor in managing dormitory operations, coordinating tutorial assignments, and supervision of students.  Minimum requirements:  Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled college student in good academic standing. Tutor/Mentors – Provide individual tutoring, serve as classroom instructional aid, and supervise and mentor a residential suite of 8 to 10 students.  Minimum requirements: College student, sophomore or higher.  This is a live-in position.  $370/weekly. For detailed job description click here.
