IST 111 (three credits)
Science to Kriyayoga
Introduction to the scientific nature of Kriyayoga, a concept of yoga encompassing actions and increasingly used to the advantage of human health. In addition, topics of integrated modern science related to human life and action will be covered at the fundamental level. The course will introduce basic Kriyayoga techniques to be practiced at the individual or group level.
Time: 4:00 – 5:15PM IST 121 (three credits) Introduction to Hindi Introduction to the Hindi language. The course will introduce Devanagari (Hindi) script and help build skills in speaking, reading, and writing in Hindi at an elementary level, emphasizing development of communication skill. Students will learn common vocabulary and some grammar and gain the ability to form simple sentences. This course does not count towards the UMass Dartmouth bachelor's degree language requirement.

Topic in Indic Studies: Eastern Indian Ocean Regions-Before & After Tsunami
The Dec 26, 2004 tsunami disaster has created a need to know more about the countries and peoples of the Eastern Indian Ocean region. This course will be taught by a team of UMD faculty with expertise in individual countries affected by the tsunami, ocean sciences, physical environment of the region, history, cultural exchanges, languages, and will be supplemented by guest lecturers.
