ABSTRACT: The use of herbs for health promotion and disease prevention dates back to the earliest periods of history. In the past decade an increased number of scientific studies have reported the health benefits of plant foods. Nutrients and non-nutritive food compounds from plants have been associated with the prevention and/or treatment of major diseases and chronic conditions including cancers, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. The talk will highlight selected Asian herbs that are receiving greater attention by the scientific community and the public.
