Hindu-Muslim clash invites discussion
PROVIDENCE - A panel discussion on conflicts in India between
Hindus and Muslims will be held tonight at 7 in Carmichael Auditorium at
Brown University. The program is free and open to the public.
The
discussion is sponsored by the Southern New England chapter of the Council
of United India Organizations in association with the Muslim Heritage
Council and the South Asia Student Association at Brown.
The
sponsors said the discussion is aimed at improving the relationship
between Hindus and Muslims.
The panelists include
Subhash Chander,
an English professor at Dayanand Angelo Vedic College, Jalandhar, Punjab,
India; Sumit Guha, a history professor at Brown;
Prof. Omar Khalid,
librarian for the Aga Khan Program at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology; Mahesh Mehta, president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America;
Mohammed Sharif, an economics professor at the University of Rhode Island;
and Prof. Bal Ram Singh, director of the Center for Indic Studies at the
University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
