Call for Papers:

The conference is seventh in a series of annual conferences held in India. Previous two conferences have been held at SriSailam (Andhra Pradesh, 2001) and New Delhi (2002). WAVES is a USA based academic society, open to all scholarly views and for participation of all persons irrespective of their caste, creed and country of origin.
The aim of the conference is to exchange ideas and to explore new insight in any field of Indian / Vedic studies in an academic environment. Papers on any aspect of Indian studies can be submitted for presentation at the conference. These will include those on Archaeology & Anthropology, History & Social Sciences; Language, Literature & Linguistics; Science & Technology; Vedas& Upanishads; Smirities& Puranas; Ramayan, Mahabharat & Gita; Contemporary Works & Issues; Inter-Faith matters; Health & Yoga, Ethics & Rituals; etc.

Registration & Accommodation:

  1. As regards registration charges, since various kinds of boarding and lodging facilities are available to suit different tastes and pockets, the delegates, including the life members of the WAVES, may pay for their accommodation, dinner and breakfast. There is therefore no need for charging any registration fee. We may manage lunch, tea & snacks during the conference, printing of souvenir, conference kit and running expenses of the conference out of US$1000.00 sanctioned by the WAVES. We may however try for sponsorship of dinner by Lt. Governor of Pondicherry or other philanthropists.
     
  2. As regards accommodation, decent accommodation are available as per following details:

    a) Top ranking hotels of Pondicherry with centralised A.C. Rs. 1,400 to 1,600/- per day ( 24 hours).

    b) Medium ranking hotels of Pondicherry--Rs. 600-700/- per day (24 hours) per double bed with centralised A.C.

    c) Those who are purely vegetarian may prefer Hotel Jayram or Hotel SadGuru having centralised A.C at the rate of Rs600-700 per day (24 hours) for double bed.

    d) Those who cannot afford above-mentioned hotels can opt for lodges like Sai Lodge located at J N Street of Pondicherry which charge around Rs. 150/- per day (24 hours) for non-A/C rooms
     
  3. As regards Travel, there are two components:

    a) Travel from respective destinations to Chennai, and
    b) from Chennai to Pondicherry.

    Those who are coming from places like New Delhi can board trains like Tamil Nadu Express, GT Express or Rajdhani Express for reaching Chennai. Those who are coming from Howrah may board Coromandel Express or Madras Mail; both are daily trains, but Coromandel is faster then Madras Mail. Those who are coming from the West like Baroda and Mumbai, etc., can board Navjeevan Express, Dadar-Chennai Express, Mumbai-Chennai Express, and Mumbai-Chennai Mail, etc, to reach Chennai.
    The above information is only tentative and it is strongly advised to consult current railway timetable or visit www.indianrailways.com for correct latest and detail information about train travel.

    Those who can afford air fare, may board flights that are available from places like New Delhi, Bombay Collate to reach Chennai. One may consult travel agents and concerned airline for the timing and fare. If the air ticket is booked well in advance one may avail confessional airfare and save a lot of money.

    After reaching Chennai through train, those who wish to travel to Pondicherry on bus to save money can go to CMBT bus stand (Koimbedu Bus Stand) through auto which may charge around Rs. 75/- or through bus number 15-B at the cost of Rs. 4/- For getting that bus, one will have to go the opposite side of the Chennai Central Railway Station through sub-way. Those who can afford taxi can hire it for Pondicherry at the rate of Rs.1,400-1,500/-

    Those who are reaching Chennai through air, can hire a taxi at the cost of around Rs. 1200/- to reach Pondicherry. Alternatively they can board local train at Trisulam railway station opposite airport and get down at Tambaram from where they can get a lot of buses for Pondicherry, who will charge around Rs. 40/-
     
  4. Tourist spots:

    Pondicherry is a beautiful town developed by the French and located 160 Kms south of Chennai on the bank of the Bay of Bengal. One can visit at Pondicherry the following places Sri Auroobindo Ashrram, Hand Made Paper Factory, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple, Government Museum (Monday Holiday), Sacred Heart Jesus Church, Botanical Gardens, Chunnambar Water Sports Complex, Auroville (Matrimandir). All the above places can be covered in one day.

    Mahabalipuram is just 90kms from Pondicherry situated between Chennai and Pondicherry. The place is famous for ancient temple architecture on the shores of Bay of Bengal. The Temple in Mahabalipuram is declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Chidambaram is just 70 Kms south of Pondicherry. The famous Nataraja Temple is located here. From here Viatheeswaran Koil is just around 25 kms, this place is famous for Nadi Sastra.

    Just around 75 Kms from Pondicherry, Tiruvanamalai is located where Arunachaleswara Temple and Ramana Maharshi Ashram are located. On the way to Tiruvanamalai one can visit Gingee Fort also.

    Kanchipuram is 140 Kms from Pondicherry. It is famous for temples like Siva Kanchi and Vishnu Kanchi, Sarees. The legendary golden lizard is in Kanchipuram.

    Tirpupathi is just 6 hours by road from Pondicherry.
