Parents Association

Information

We want to acquaint you with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Parents Association and Fund. We hope you will become involved parents and join us to make UMass Dartmouth an even better place for your own child and for generations to come

What is the Parents Association?

The Parents Association is a supportive team of parents, university staff and students with a common goal of ensuring the best educational opportunities for all students at UMass Dartmouth.

The Parents Association has helped involve parents in University activities and provide them with a communications link to UMass Dartmouth. Parents are encouraged to attend Parents Association meetings during the academic year.

What is the Parents Fund?

The fund raising arm of the Parents Association which raises funds from parents of current and graduated students to support the association's activities. The Parents Fund also provides resources for projects, programs and campus life requirements which are not fully funded by the normal state budget. Private support is needed to keep UMass Dartmouth broadening its margin of excellence in education. The Parents Fund is managed by the UMass Dartmouth Foundation.

Why Am I Being Asked to Participate in the Parents Fund Campaign?

UMass Dartmouth receives approximately 38% of its revenue from the state while another portion comes from tuition and student fees. The gap between what is received and the cost to educate students must be made up by other resources such as gifts from parents, alumni, and friends. It is, the over $5.5 million that we receive in private donations that enables this University to enhance its innovative programming, expand cutting edge research and offer support for premier faculty, making UMass Dartmouth the top New England public university of its kind according to U.S. News and World Report. Private contributions increase the value of the UMass degree.

Will My Gift Make a Difference?

Absolutely! Every gift is important because each one builds participation. When UMass Dartmouth solicits corporations and foundations for grants, we are frequently judged on the level of support we get from our alumni and the families of our students. The greater our participation rate, the higher the University's chances of receiving grants. This is why we ask each family to participate to the best of its ability. Remember also that your gift is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

How Will I be Asked to Contribute?

Direct mail
An appeal is mailed to Parents during the first half of the fall semester. Parents who make gifts early in the fiscal year help UMass Dartmouth to avoid the costs of follow-up mail and telephone solicitations. A follow-up mailing is also sent at the end of the fall semester.
Telephone
As part of the campaign UMass Dartmouth students call parents who have not yet responded to the direct mailing on behalf of the Parents Association Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Ways of Giving

To make giving easier we have set up a special giving program so you can spread your contribution out over the fiscal year which ends June 30. You can also put the full amount of your gift on a Visa or MasterCard so that your gift will go to work immediately.
