Apply for a student visa

If the university accepts you, we will issue you an I-20.

Pay $100 for the SEVIS fee. For more information please click here.

Interview at American Consulate for student visa. You need a receipt showing that you paid the SEVIS fee to obtain this appointment. For a list of American Consulates around the world, please click here.

Prepare to depart your country

If the consulate grants you a visa, you will need to do the following to prepare to leave for the U.S.:

  • Confirm with the university that you will be attending
  • Make sure you have a valid passport
  • Arrange housing
  • Book an airplane flight
  • Arrange transportation from the airport

Arrive in the U.S.

Your Port of Entry is the first airport you enter in the United States. You will recieve an I-94 on the airplane. This form basically notes your entry to the country.

Orientation

All new international students must attend Orientation. For an overview of the International Student Center's Orientation program, please click here.

Duration of Status

F-1 visa regulations will be covered at Orientation. For further information, visit our section on F-1 visas, or e-mail INTL_Office@umassd.edu. There may be an occasion where you must visit your country's consulate while in the U.S. For a list of foreign consulates in the U.S., please click here.
