1. Apply
Study Abroad Application (Fall or Spring Semester and Year-Long Programs)
For UMD students planning to study abroad during the Fall or Spring semester or for a year-long program. This form may be completed using Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4.0 or higher). Once completed, print, sign where designated, and return to the IPO.
Study Abroad Short-Term Application
For UMD students planning to study abroad during the Summer or Winter terms or are studying abroad as part of a semester course. This form may be completed using Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4.0 or higher). Once completed, print, sign where designated, and return to the IPO.
Study Abroad Short-Term Application for Non-UMass Dartmouth Students
For Non-UMD students planning to participate in one of UMD's faculty-led programs. This form may be completed using Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4.0 or higher). Once completed, print, sign where designated, and return to the IPO. This form tells us the information that we need to enter you into our computer system as an approved non-degree student for purposes of this study abroad program.

Hessen Exchange application
For UMass students participating in the Exchange Program with Hessen, Germany. This application must be submitted in addition to the Study Abroad Application (for Fall/Spring semester or Year-long programs) or the Study Abroad Short-Term Application (please see above for links to these applications).
2. Verify expenses
Semester Study Abroad Estimated Expenses Form
For UMD students receiving Financial Aid from the university and who are planning to study abroad during the Fall or Spring semester or for an entire academic year. This form must be completed by the student, reviewed by the IPO, and dropped off at the University Enrollment Center.
Summer Study Abroad Estimated Expense Form
For UMD students receiving Financial Aid from the university and who are planning to study abroad during the Summer session. This form must be completed by the student, reviewed by the IPO, and dropped off at the University Enrollment Center.
3. Confirm course plan form with department
Course Pre-Approval Form
For UMD students studying abroad in programs other than UMD faculty-led programs. This form should be completed by the student in consultation with their academic advisor. Signatures from Department Chairs and the IPO are required.
4. Other if applicable
Special Recommendation Form
For UMD students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement to study abroad. This form should be completed by the student's department chairperson.
Retroactive Course Approval Form
For UMD students who have taken courses abroad that were not pre-approved. Students should present this form along with course descriptions or syllabi and completed assignments to the Department Chair of the area of study of their coursework. Students must then seek the approval of the Department Chair of their major and/or Dean.
