Law School Graduation Awards

May 11, 2013

The law school’s graduation awards were presented at a brunch held before the graduate commencement ceremony on May 11, 2013. The brunch was hosted by Dean Mary Lu Bilek and attended by several dignitaries, including Chancellor Grossman and Zoila Gomez, a member of  the UMass Board of Trustees, both of whom addressed the graduates.

The Academic Achievement Awards, given to the graduates with the highest cumulative grade point average in each division, were presented to Stephen S. Brown and Michaela McCuish. Mr. Brown also delivered the Valedictory Address at the brunch.Law Graduation Awards Brunch

Andrew Sibley received the Adam Pauley Memorial Award for academic excellence.

Shawn Guilderson received the St. Thomas More Award.

The Dean’s Service Awards were given to Ricky Bonilla, Jacqueline E. Briggs, Edward J. Callahan, and Bianca J. Gay. Mr. Bonilla is the outgoing president of the Student Bar Association and also spoke at the brunch.

The Alumni Association Award was presented to Steven C. Zoni by Ryan Benharris, the newly-elected president of the UMass Law Alumni Association.

Mark Gould was awarded the Student Bar Association Hon. Francis J. Larkin Amicus Award, which is given annually to recognize the recipient’s uncommon dedication and service to his fellow students.

The Thurgood Marshall Social Justice Award, which is given to a graduate who demonstrated a strong commitment to social and economic, was awarded to Mario D. Nimock.

Jamie Newlon received the Rikki J. Klieman Advocacy in Scholarship Award, and the award for outstanding performance in the Immigration Law Clinic was given to Jane Romney.

The Delta Theta Phi Fraternity Award was given to Leah Davis.

Certificates of recognition were also presented to the graduating members of the Law Review Editorial Board and to the Dean’s Fellows. Thomas J. Cleary, who is retiring as the adjunct faculty advisor to the Law Review, was also given an award in recognition of his many years of service to the review.
