Rebecca Lacoste JD '17: Here for a reason

UMass Law School student Rebecca Lacoste, a self-described “product of public education,” is focused on protecting the rights of children and chose to attend the Commonwealth’s only public law school because of its strong emphasis on public service.

Internship with the Administration for Children Services

During her internship with the Administration for Children Services, Rebecca Lacoste helped advocate for a four-year-old girl to remove her from the care of her abusive stepfather.

“It’s very emotional to know that there’s a child going through something like that, but then to know that you’re able to help the child, that’s definitely one of the best feelings in the world,” Rebecca said.

Rebecca chose UMass Law because of its emphasis on public interest. “I’m at UMass Law to make a difference,” she said. “I’m a product of public education. I went to public school my whole life, and I think having an institution that really believes in you is an amazing feeling.”
