UMD Mobile Usage Survey Results

Survey conducted December 1- 15, 2011

Total 513 respondents from across the campus community

Why did we conduct this survey?

• To gain feedback on UMassD mobile
• Get a sense of mobile technologies in use on campus
• Use this data to help direct the mobile initiative next steps

Summary of findings:

• 71.9% of the UMD community owns a Smart phone (iPhone,Blackberry,Android,Windows)
• Of the 71.9% smartphone users, 48.9% are undergraduates followed by staff at 19.9% 
• Email and Homepage are the most accessed web apps via UmassD mobile
• Laptop are still the preferred mobile device at 80% with smartphone close behind at 71%  
• Most requested campus mobile apps: 
  • interactive campus map
  • dart van location tracking service
  • access to COIN
  • communication alerts
  • access to grades
